Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative Consultant in Public Health to provide leadership across health and care and help to create a healthier Greater Manchester. Since the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership was formed, changes have begun to make things better, but there is still work to do, with a clear opportunity for the right candidate to work across systems and shape the future.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Consultant in Public Health who has strong technical skills and can operate in a complex and political landscape, making the most of partnerships, finding and seizing opportunity and leading across systems to deliver at pace and scale. The successful candidate will provide population health insight and a high level public health expertise into the development of a range of work programmes.

Main duties of the job

The Consultant in Healthcare Public Health will oversee, coordinate and deliver high quality professional public health input, support and advice to the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership (GMHSCP) to drive improvements in outcomes and reduction in health inequalities across the population.

The Consultant in Public Health will identify future challenges to the publics health. The post holder will be embedded in the Greater Manchester Health & Social Care Partnership, as part of the devolved health and care arrangements, with a work programme agreed jointly between the GMHSCP Director Population Health and PHE North West Deputy Director Healthcare Public Health and will work effectively across directorates, teams and disciplines in the Region.

Essential

  • Inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health practice
  • Public health specialty registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in dental public health/UKPHR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry at the date of interview; all other applicants must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they have applied for inclusion in the GMC/GDC/UKPHR specialist registers
  • If an applicant is UK trained in Public Health, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
  • Applicants must meet minimum CPD requirements (i.e. be up to date) in accordance with Faculty of Public Health requirements or other recognised body
