About us

In the public interest, ministers need the advice they receive on matters relating to the regulation of medicines and medical devices to be impartial. They also need to be able to get advice from a wide range of highly-skilled professionals who are senior and well regarded in their respective fields and from a range of appointed lay representatives.

A number of independent advisory committees have been established to provide this advice and these committees can also establish working groups to address specific problems.

To build and maintain confidence that the advice on which decisions about the regulation of medicines, medical devices and blood components for transfusion are based is impartial and to maintain confidence in the work of the committees, it is essential to have a robust policy to identify and effectively manage any potential conflicts in the interests of transparency and accountability.

More information on the Code of Practice for the Commission on Human Medicines are available at the CHM website, links enclosed.
