Jersey is a unique place to live and work and being a Biomedical Scientist in Jersey is different. As a crown dependency, we are an Island nation which includes our own healthcare Service. And it is a service on the move. With our patients and health professionals at the centre of all we do, as a Biomedical Scientist you have more time to deliver your role and we give more time to you, for your development and wellbeing.
Every day, our dedicated team takes immense pride in their work, delivering exceptional care of the highest calibre to our Island community.
The Biomedical Scientist taking that role will have the opportunity to work day shifts in Clinical Chemistry for a period of 6 months.
Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) specialist diploma in clinical biochemistry or equivalent is a requirement however we may consider aplications without specialist portfolio if experince demonstrated. HCPC registration is a requirement.
Main duties of the job
Perform and report on a range of specialist clinical biochemical laboratory analyses on blood and other samples, giving advice on appropriate techniques, to guide and contribute to clinical diagnoses, treatments and the evaluation of the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.
Prioritise work, using personal knowledge and experience, to meet urgent clinical need and agreed turnaround times, contributing to population wide disease reduction and health promotion, and hospital bed occupancy management.
Take personal ownership of scientific decisions that impact on patient care, alone or often leading a small team, by reporting biochemical, metabolic, endocrine, toxicological and specific marker assays, to enable prompt and appropriate patient treatment.
Troubleshoot instrumentation and procedures, often at a higher technical level and with a higher level of training than might be expected in a mainland laboratory, resolving technical nonconformities, ensuring laboratory work meets pre-agreed quality acceptance criteria. See patients (often children) for chlorine sweat testing, collecting specimens from them, perform laboratory analysis, and interpret and report the results, attend regular update training at a specialist centre to maintain skills, facilitating clinical diagnosis of cystic fibrosis.
