1. Assess, develop interventions and monitor needs for a range of highly complex conditions within the mental health setting. This includes specialist evaluation, diagnostic services, advice and training to clients, families and other professional staff on the management of physical and mental illness, injury or disability, prevention of deformity and deterioration, management of a client's environmental factors, vocational and educational opportunities and leisure activities. Undertake the role of care co-ordinator within a health and social services context, encompassing all required to assess for long term care benefit, and negotiate specialist care packages including budgeting.

2. Interpret, share, implement and monitor Government and National policies, standards and guidelines within specialist area to ensure that work is conducted in accordance with organization/service policies and within health and safety regulations.

3. Work as part of the multidisaplinary team on the wards with service users that may benefit from OT intervention, and providing subsequent comprehensive, holistic assessment using a variety of specialist clinical skills and individual intervention including prescription of Rehabilitation programmes and therapeutic activities in order to promote maximum independence of the client.

4. Maintain appropriate and timely service users records of assessment, intervention and progress to monitor effectiveness of intervention, to facilitate treatment planning and long term client management and to support the ongoing evaluation of the efficiency and effectiveness of the service to inform departmental planning purposes.

5. Act as a mentor and provide regular clinical supervision to OT staff, including those employed from locum agencies. Manage, advise and support qualified staff, trainees and support staff to ensure they receive the training they need to deliver their roles to the best of their abilities and to support their continuing professional development.

6. Support the appraisal of the service's performance, identifying unmet needs, investigating complaints relating to professional practice, implementing the use of outcome measures to evaluate the effectiveness of the service and interpreting and actioning developments in OT practice in order to make recommendations and contribute to organisational changes to improve the service.

Qualifications

Essential

• Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy, current registration with the Health & Care Professions Council, and be registered as an Occupational Therapist under the Health Care (Registration) (Jersey) Law 1995.

Experience

Essential

• The successful candidate will need to be skilled and knowledgeable in occupational therapy assessment and intervention, passionate, and keen to take on new challenges and innovations. They will be able to work effectively within the multidisciplinary team, providing clinical expertise, and direct support and direction with team based clinical interventions, initiatives, and management of the ward environment. They will be required support the Senior II OTs and Social Activity Coordinator staff within the Inpatient wards.
• Quality improvement involvement and occupational therapy related post graduate training at masters level will be supported for this role. Training and experience in Sensory Integration would be advantageous, as a key knowledge base informing reasonable adjustments and emotional regulation needs. Audit and outcome measured project experience would be advantageous.
• - Eight years post qualification experience with three years experience in acute mental health care setting.
• - Specialist knowledge gained within a similar environment.
• - Significant experience of undertaking assessment, formulation, risk assessment and positive risk management.
• - Proven experience of people management, leadership, and supervisory skills.
• - Highly specialized and practical knowledge of Occupational Therapy models of practice, assessments and treatment approaches in area of specialty (i.e. Model of Human Occupation, Occupational Performance Model, Sensory Integration, Postural Management, Accessible Environmental Design).
• - Knowledge of Health & Social Care legislation and current practice.
• - Detailed knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and its application/ implementation.
• - Knowledge of Health Service development plans and of new and existing services, service innovations and sustainable health and social care initiatives.
• - Good understanding of teaching/training others in dialectical behaviour therapy, safe handling and clinical supervision.
• - Extensive and detailed knowledge of equipment, treatment modalities and adaptations.
• - Understands how to disseminate information to a variety of settings/professionals.
