The post holder will work as part of the clinical (medical and nursing) team, and under the supervision of the Consultant Haematologists, to provide a comprehensive clinical haematology service.
Main duties of the job
The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service. This includes the following, which is not an exhaustive list; the activities and responsibilities will not only reflect the experience of the candidate, but also their interests and future career intentions.
To assist Consultant staff in the management of adult Haematology patients, both malignant and non-malignant, in the outpatient, day case and inpatient setting.
Attend and assist at Outpatient clinics.
In conjunction with other members of the team, to manage haematology inpatients and to conduct ward rounds.
To undertake bone marrow and other procedures as necessary and assist with reporting of bone marrows and blood films.
Provide medical support for chemotherapy and day unit services.
To be available for advice to junior doctors, attending ward/day unit as necessary.
To liaise with GPs and provide advice in consultation with Consultant Haematologist.
To assist with, attend and contribute to patient management at MDTs.
To assist with laboratory queries and report films, bone marrows within your level of competence and training. Training would be encouraged.
To ensure all documentation is comprehensive, accurate and completed in a timely manner.
Promote a friendly and team based working environment in line with our hospital values.
Teaching of primary care colleagues and junior medical staff through mixture of case-based review and formal teaching activity.
