Job summary
Jersey General Hospital is seeking two enthusiastic Paediatricians to join their busy, friendly team. This is a
challenging but rewarding role, in a department that has a good record of
retaining staff. The posts have been
created as part of a planned expansion in our staff grade team to provide a
less demanding out of hours rota and better access to skilled paediatric staff based
on the island.
The successful
applicant will be a well-rounded Paediatrician, able to manage emergencies with
confidence, as well as run an effective outpatient consultation. Good clinical skills within the Neonatal Unit
are essential. The job is varied and the successful applicant will be
multifaceted. Good time keeping and
organisation will be important along with flexibility. Specific duties and job planning will be
subject to annual review. Not all skills
are essential at the outset, and we support staff to learn new skills and
develop as clinicians.
Interviews are planned for week commencing 2nd June 2025.
Main duties of the job
The successful
applicant will be expected to be an energetic and enthusiastic member of this
close-knit team.
We are a
small department composed of 6 Paediatric Consultants, 7 Paediatric Staff
Grades and a rotating FY2 resident doctor from the Wessex training rotation.
The post holder
will participate in general paediatric and neonatal ward rounds, and ward
duties along with clinics at the General Hospital, under consultant supervision. They will attend newborn deliveries and
conduct postnatal checks. There will
also be the opportunity to attend clinics held at the Child Development Centre,
as the timetable allows.
Out of hours:
the post holder will be first on call for Paediatric and Neonatal Emergencies,
the Childrens Ward and the Neonatal Unit.
The successful applicant will participate in an on call rota, performing
1:8 on call. On calls are on site 17:00
to 09:00 hrs (weekdays), 09:00 to 21:30 and 21:30 to 09:30 (weekends), with a
Consultant on call from home. The post will be flexibly timetabled to meet the
demands of the service and the timing of sessions may change as the service
