Health and Community Services

The closing date is 15 February 2026

Job summary

Health and Community Services is a Government of Jersey department and is not part of the NHS.

Our Island takes the time to care, enabling more time for our patients and more time for our nurses.

Jersey is a unique place to live and work and being a nurse in Jersey is different. As a crown dependency, we are an Island nation which includes our own Health Care Service. And it is a service on the move. With our patients and health professionals at the centre of all we do, as a nurse you have more time to care and we give more time to you, for your development and wellbeing.

With one general hospital, an average patient ratio of 1:6, ward managers that are 100% supervisory and instant access to a host of qualifications and courses, we work to ensure that our nurses can provide the best patient care possible. We have the time to make a difference to our patients, giving consideration to their wellbeing in its entirety and going further than just medical needs. People are not just a number, they are a patient here in Jersey.

We have attached a suite of documents that we hope will give you a flavour of Island life, our Health Care system, being an Island nurse and the support we will give to you should you decide to join us.

We have a number of roles across various care groups and clinical areas both within the acute and community services. If you are keen to understand what a life on Jersey could look like get in contact with us for a chat.

Main duties of the job

Our role of staff nurse exists in all care groups both within the acute and community services with each area having its own specialist knowledge. However, planning and delivering passionate and patient centered care is at the heart of all of our health roles.

Our nurses supervise the care given by our Healthcare Assistants and provide guidance and coaching across the team.

Demonstrating a thorough knowledge of the guidelines of the NMC Code (2015), our nurses contribute to the development of a philosophy of care which encourages the creation of a therapeutic environment for patients.

And with a focus on safeguarding for all within our care, our nurses have thorough policy and procedural knowledge and understand its application.
