Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacist to join the team at Jersey General Hospital in the Channel Islands.In this newly developed role you will be part of both the pharmacy digital and technical services teams supporting both the development, implementation and maintenance of medicines related digital systems and assisting the accountable pharmacist in the effective and safe operational running of the pharmacy aseptic services unit. In addition, you will be able to further use your clinical pharmacy skills and contribute to the hospitals clinical pharmacy service through working on the hospital inpatient wards and participating in on call duties. Main duties of the job

Provide specialist clinical pharmacist support to the digital pharmacy team in the development, implementation and maintenance of digital systems involving medicines within HCS (e.g. Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration) Assist the Accountable Pharmacist in effective and safe operational running of the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit and in the training of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in the technical aspects of the service. Ensure, maintain and develop facilities, equipment and work practises to achieve the highest technical standards. Provide specialist Clinical Pharmacy Services to a designated area to help ensure the safe, clinically effective and economical use of medicines.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Support the Consultant pharmacist, digital systems in the development, implementation,maintenance, and optimisation of medicines related digital systems, including (but not limitedto EPMA, chemotherapy e-prescribing, PharmaTrac, Pyxis).

2. Deputise for the Consultant pharmacist, digital systems for the operational and clinicalmanagement of digital systems involving medicines.

3. Provide all HCS staff with day-to-day application support, for medicines related digitalsystems, to enhance clinical medicines safety practices and resolve any issues which mayarise.

4. Plan and develop user acceptance test plans and test system upgraded so that systemsmaintenance and upgrades meet clinical users needs and cause minimal disruption to normalworking practices.

5. Act as authorised Pharmacist and supervise day-today preparation of products and releasefor use in accordance with local, regional and national guidelines. To deputise for theAccountable Pharmacist in their absence.

6. To ensure the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit is operating in accordance with currentlegislation and guidance including Good Manufacturing Practise (GMP), Good ClinicalPractise (GCP), Good Distribution Practice (GDP), Quality Assurance of Aseptic PreparationServices, RPSGB Code of Ethics, Health and Safety, Medicines law, COSHH andDepartmental procedures.

7. To be fully aware of the processes used to accurately and consistently prepare, dispense andrelease a wide range of aseptically prepared products (including both those prepared in-houseand those purchased as unlicensed ready to administer doses from specials manufacturers).

8. To be able to risk assess situations and determine appropriate actions within their remit as anauthorised pharmacist e.g. out of specifications to environmental monitoring, breach instorage conditions, air handling unit failures.

9. To work with the Accountable Pharmacist to identify and monitor the needs of the serviceusers and Pharmacy Aseptics Service Unit, and effectively plan and implement changes andimprovements to the unit to promote a safe, effective and economic service provision.

10. To maintain the necessary competencies. These include but are not limited to validhandwashing, gowning, transfer, cleaning, pre & in-process and checking validations,preparation of sterile products.

11. Support the Consultant pharmacist, Digital systems and Lead pharmacist, Technical servicesand Oncology in the development of local guidelines and policies ensuring compliance withnational and local policies and guidelines.

12. Develop and deliver related training programmes to staff at all levels across HCS, ensuringthey are trained and competent to safely undertake their specific roles.

13. Identify and participate in areas of research including audits of medicines use and digitalinformatics reporting to assist with medicines optimisation throughout HCS. To assist theAccountable Pharmacist in the self-inspection audits and external audits and take an activerole in addressing any deficiencies identified.

14. Work as a member of the multi-professional health and care teams, providing highly complexclinical pharmacy advice and expertise to peers, patients and management to ensure that bestpractice is promoted and patient outcomes and experience are optimised, within a designatedarea.

  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (obtained by
