Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide emergency and routine care in ENT surgery for the population of Jersey, as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the care of ENT patients under the care of the ENT team and to see patients referred by other departments in order to offer advice and, if necessary, treatment. This will be achieved by attending fixed outpatient clinics, operating theatre sessions and in case of emergency additional sessions may be needed, undertaking regular ward rounds as needed to monitor care of in-patients and sharing a 1:4 on-call commitment in a flexible manner in order to optimise patient care. The 3 Consultants and 1 Associate Specialist are essentially first on call with only A&E doctors and an FY1 doctor with them. There is a very active combined MDT with radiology and pathology to which all Consultants are expected to attend.

The post holder will be required to participate in a 1:4 oncall rota.

Jersey operates on a different system for remuneration of on-call whereby sessions are allocated in lieu of on-call. A 1:4 on-call attracts 2 programmed activities. In the eventuality of any Private practice, Jersey also functions differently, as there is only one hospital on the Island, and consultants are encouraged to operate on their private patients in hospital on their timetabled operating lists. Therefore, there are 10 programmed activities in the job plan, and therefore only 10 programmed activities are paid.
