Thank you for your interest in our post of
Consultant ENT Surgeon with special interest in Head and Neck Cancer
(desirable).
The post willprovide emergency and routine care in ENT surgery for the population ofJersey, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for the care of ENT patients under the care of the ENT team and to see patients referred by other departments in order to offer advice and, if necessary, treatment.This will be achieved by attending fixed outpatient clinics, operating theatre sessions and in case of emergency additional sessions may be needed, undertaking regular ward rounds as needed to monitor care of in-patients and sharing a 1:4 on-call commitment in a flexible manner in order to optimise patient care. The 3 Consultants and 1 Associate Specialist are essentially first on call with only A&E doctors and an FY1 doctor with them. There is a very active combined MDT with radiology and pathology to which all Consultants are expected to attend.

There is a dedicated ENT/Audiology Outpatients
Department. Inpatients are admitted to
general surgical wards and children to the paediatric ward.

There were 8,322 outpatient attendances last
year of which about 2,714 were new.
Approximately 1000 operations are carried out each year. The department
carries out the full range of ENT
services including BAHA, head and neck oncology with a visiting radiotherapist,
thyroid surgery and FESS. We do not do
free flap surgery, cochlear implants or acoustic neuroma.

on-call. A 1:4 on-call attracts 2
programmed activities. In the
eventuality of any Private practice, Jersey also functions differently, as
there is only one hospital on the Island, and consultants are encouraged to
operate on their private patients in hospital on their timetabled operating
lists. Therefore, there are 10
programmed activities in the job plan, and therefore only 10 programmed
activities are paid.
