Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Midwife to join Jersey's Maternity Services. This is a rotational post working predominantly in the community setting, but also within the antenatal clinic and maternity unit. Jersey has a thriving and committed home birth service, with an annual homebirth rate of 5.2% and Midwives are equipped to offer service users and their families antenatal and postnatal continuity of care. All applicants will be Registered Midwives, accountable for their own midwifery practice and will be able to fulfil the following role through the ability to make decisions with current protocols and principles of care in compliance with the NMCs Midwives Rules and code of Midwifery Practice.The post holder is required to take responsibility as a prime care provider in either the hospital or community setting. Theywill be confident in providing midwife led care and should have 2 years post qualifyingexperience.

Main duties of the job

  1. Work to deliver safe and effective antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to women and their families in all areas of the maternity unit
  2. Participate in an on-call system to provide intrapartum care for women choosing to birth at home
  3. Support working relationships and effective communication with members of the multi-disciplinary team, including referral and review whennecessary
  4. Provide telephone or personal advice to women about their pregnancy or care
  5. Input information in to electronic computer systems, ensuring that documentation is prompt, correct and outcomes updated
  6. Clinical risk assessment of clients, monitoring of observations and reporting or escalating abnormal findings to medical staff or the midwife in charge
  7. Maintain clinical competence with attendance of mandatory training days, participating in CPD and reflective practice
  8. Provide midwifery expertise and advice, working as an autonomous practitioner accountable to the senior midwife
  9. Adhere to HCS policies in relation to information governance and client confidentiality
  10. Discuss and action concerns regarding safeguarding
  11. Participate in audit and data collection
  12. Promote parent education to women and their families, making appropriate referrals to universal offers of antenatal education
