We are excited to offer you the opportunity to be a part of the newly formed Crisis and Assessment Team within Adult Mental Health in the specialist role of Authorised Officer (Jersey's naming of AMHP's or MHO's). As part of a redesign and an injection of additional funding, the crisis and assessment team assesses individuals at the front door into mental health services, formulating care plans and next steps in collaboration with service users and their carers, in a thriving multi-disciplinary team. We also manage the 24/7 AO rota, facilitating referrals for, and completion of, mental health law assessments as and when needed. We are looking for passionate and confident assessors who can work autonomously and as part of a team.
This role comes with additional shift allowance - 20% of CS09.2
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a dedicated team carrying out statutory duties as an Authorised Officer under the Mental Health (Jersey) Law (2016), on behalf of the Government of Jersey.This is an autonomous and authoritative role, involving multidisciplinary and multiagency working. It requires specialist knowledge evidenced by the relevant post graduate study, with high levels of professional wisdom, confidence, and maturity.

Coordinates statutory functions under the Mental Health (Jersey) Law (2016) on behalf of the Government of Jersey.
Carries out Mental Health Law Assessments in partnership with service users, carers, colleagues from other disciplines, and other statutory and/or voluntary agencies.
Applies specialist knowledge and analytical skills to make decisions about the lives of vulnerable people, frequently in highly emotive situations where there are high levels of complexity, uncertainty, and risk.
Provides a social perspective with regard to the causes of islanders poor mental health, and where appropriate, promotes and enables the use of alternatives to hospital admission.
Works collaboratively with colleagues to empower service users and carers, maximise service user independence, and ensure the protection of islanders human rights.
Provides timely, accurate, well written reports, in accordance with statutory guidance and Government policy.
Takes responsibility for continuing professional development within own area of expertise, with particular regard to the relevant legislation, and the safeguarding of adults and children.
