Job summary

The States of Guernsey are looking for a Health Visitor to join the Health Visiting Team within Public Health Services.

This will provide an exciting opportunity for the post holder to have overall management of a defined caseload, and the provision of a full range of health visiting servcies to those families, including Universal, MECSH and safeguarding work. In addition there is also the opportunity to deliver community based group activities.

Reflective supervision is encouraged for all aspects, clinical, safeguarding and MECSH as well as professional development being readily available. This is a small but supportive skill mixed team team who work hard to promote the health and development of the pre-school children on our Islands

Main duties of the job

The Health Visitor (HV) will be part of the Health Visiting Team based in Guernsey.

The HV will be responsible for the delivery of Universal Health Services for a defined caseload.

Reporting to the Health visiting Team Leader, they will support the development of the service and work with colleagues to ensure the delivery of a safe and effective Universal Health Provision.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To manage a defined caseload as the named health professional with responsibility for the planning and delivery of the Healthy Child Programme to the caseload.

To be responsible for identifying need within the caseload and offering appropriate additional interventions and/or referrals as needed, assessing the effectiveness of these.

To develop, implement and evaluate specialised programmes of care utilising evidence and research. Including undertaking evidence-based child health assessments and develop health plans in partnership with children, parents and carers.

Following appropriate training offers and engage families with the MECSH enhanced health visiting programme.

To manage and undertake drop-in baby clinics.

To provide dietary and nutrition advice, including breastfeeding advice and support, keeping up to date with latest research.

To provide specialist advice to other agencies, eg Social Workers, Police, Housing and Environmental Health.

To undertake screening of parents for post-natal depression and design, implement and evaluate a holistic care and support plan in conjunction with the parent.

To guide, advise and direct other staff in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of specialised service user care.

To work with Public Health, local statutory, private and voluntary providers and users to develop and promote practice that is accessible and responsive to all section of the community, ensuring that services are targeted to the most vulnerable groups and individuals to support social inclusion.

To promote service user involvement in the planning, delivery and evaluation of care, respecting their beliefs and dignity.

To utilise data and information from a range of sources to identify service user condition and guide decision making.

To refer to other services as appropriate, eg GPs Paediatricians, allied health professionals and voluntary organisations.

To work to the principals of a Non-Medical Prescriber, in line with the Nurse Prescribing Formulary and the Local Protocols for Nurse Prescribing, as appropriate

To identify children in need and children in need of protection and work with other agencies to support vulnerable families. To adhere to current Local Safeguarding Board Procedures.

To participate in clinical, MECSH and Child Protection Supervision.

To represent the service at local events, including but not limited to, antenatal promotional events, community shows and conferences, which may include working outside of core hours.

To participate in the Childhood Vaccination Programme as required.

To undertake the role of health promoter and educator for service users and their support networks.

To facilitate training/advice sessions for colleagues, service users and their support networks.

To ensure that professional standards are upheld by the staff members working within the postholders sphere of responsibility.
