The States of Guernsey are looking for a Senior Orthopaedic Practitioner to join the Outpatients Department based at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The post holder has management responsibility for staff within the plaster room on a daily basis, prioritising the workload and delegating appropriately under the guidance of the Outpatient Manager.The post holder is responsible for delivery of the casting/splinting service provision across a wide and varied patient group via referral, throughout HSC and its peripherals.Will be responsible for the skilled application and removal of casts and braces, including complex applications in Theatre i.e. Scoliosis jackets, hip spicas.Provide optimum quality of care to patients, offering support to the MDT and required to take management responsibility for the plaster room on each shift.To practice in accordance with HSC standards and statutory requirements, and operate within the boundaries of the role and assessed competencies.

- British Casting Certificate.

- Teaching and assessing qualification.
Experience

- Significant experience working in a trauma and orthopaedic setting.
- Ability to assess clinical situations and act appropriately.
- Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of trauma/orthopaedic conditions and treatment options.
- Ability to maintain own competency to practice through CPD activities such as internal training courses.
- Experience working as an Orthopaedic Practitioner in a Trauma and Orthopaedic setting.
- Be trained to undertake simple wound care i.e. removal of sutures and clips.
- To be competent in the application of casts in Clinic/Theatre i.e. Hip Spicas, Scoliosis Jackets.
- Good teaching skills. Ability to impart knowledge in theory and practice.
- To be competent in removal of K.Wires and external fixators in clinics.
- Communicates well and is able to respond to patients needs with respect and empathy.
- Works well as a team member.
- Good attendance record.
- Able to work in a busy environment.
- Able to adapt to the changing needs of the department.
- Empathetic approach with the elderly.
- Effective communication skills including a wide range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively in order to progress treatment.
- Ability to prioritise own time and that of others.
- To have physical and mental stamina to carry out interventions requiring concentration, moderate or intense physical effort throughout the working day.
- Flexible in day to day working.
