The States of Guernsey are looking for a Clinical Psychologist to join the Psychological Therapies Team within the States of Guernsey Mental Health Service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a UK registered Clinical Psychologist and will work within the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and British Psychological Society (BPS) codes of conduct ensuring that adequate arrangements are in place for clinical supervision and continuing professional development in order to maintain registration.The post holder will work within the Psychological Therapies Team in Specialist Mental Health Services. The post holder will hold a personal caseload providing complex psychological assessment, treatment and consultation work engaging on average a minimum of 4 clients per day. They will be able to work with individuals, couples and groups of service users presenting with severe and enduring complex presentations with associated risk across our various pathways. These will include presentations in our long-term physical health, mental health, forensic, neuropsychology, learning disabilities and autism pathways.The post holder will be responsible for the clinical supervision of allocated staff within and outside of the Psychological Therapies Team.The post holder must work within the policies and procedures, as may be amended from time to time, as determined by HSC or its appointed agents.

Service users are assessed and receive treatment for a range of medically unexplained symptoms, long-term conditions (e.g. cancer, respiratory disorders, diabetes), pain management (e.g. primary and secondary) and with severe and complex mental health problems(e.g. arising from sexual and physical abuse/neglect, psychosis, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, post[1]traumatic stress syndrome, attachment disorders, depression and personality disorders), learning disabilities and autism, forensic and neuropsychological presentations (e.g. stroke, traumatic brain injury).
Provide expert consultation to professionals and agencies outside HSC on issues relating to psychology and the psychological treatment of service users and support for their families. Promote effective multi-agency work.
Develop and provide psychological services in line with organisational and clinical needs.
Hold responsibility for a high standard of clinical practice within all areas of work.
Design and implement systems which enable colleagues to develop their knowledge and skills in working in ways which are informed by psychological ideas and practice.

Service Development / Teaching and Supervision
Contribute to the ongoing development and provision of a high quality, responsive and accessible Psychological Therapies Team within Specialist Mental Health Services.
Provide clinical supervision from a psychological therapy perspective to colleagues within and outside of the Specialist Mental Health Services.
Provide specialist support, training, and education of other colleagues and professionals who work within the Specialist Mental Health Services and relevant acute and community physical health and forensic services. Where agreed, they will provide specialist consultation to other members of the multi-disciplinary team and practitioners from other agencies and services regarding their provision of psychologically- based work with service users.
The post holder will co-ordinate and clinically contribute to the educational needs of trainees, students and others on placements allocated to the Specialist Mental Health Services (including trainee clinical psychologists, therapists, nurses and other allied health professionals), acting as a mentor, assessing competency and writing placement reports where required. They will provide clinical placements, so that trainees acquire the necessary skills, competencies and experience to contribute effectively to positive change that promotes mental health, wellbeing, rehabilitation and functioning
Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate policies and procedures in order to enhance and develop the Psychological Therapies Team as part of a comprehensive Specialist Mental Health Services.
