Job summary
The Day Patient Unit consists of a 19 bedded ward area with additional seated waiting areas for ambulatory patients. A minor operation/procedure room with 2 bedded post-anaesthetic recovery unit also forms part of the unit along with an Endoscopy Suite.Service users attend the unit for a variety of surgical, endoscopy, dental, interventional radiological and other diagnostic procedures.The overall purpose of the role is to practice clinically as a member of the nursing and multi-professional team within the Day Patient Unit. This involves contributing to the evaluation of the effectiveness of planning and delivery of services and to be proactive in maintaining quality, service improvement, and patient flow in a safe and comfortable environment.The Day Patient Unit relies on the multi-skilled nature of the team and whilst previous experience would be an asset, this role is also developmental so offers the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills to provide assistance in, for example, the minor operations/procedures room and endoscopy suite. Pre-Assessment also forms part of the Ward responsibilities.

Main duties of the job
1. To assess, develop, implement and evaluate care plans demonstrating high standards
of evidence-based care.
2. To work autonomously, recognising changes in patients'/service users' presentation
which require intervention, knowing when to escalate to senior staff.
3. To guide, advise and direct other staff in the delivery of programmes of care.
4. To support patients/service users in undertaking activities of daily living within care
plans
5. To undertake the role of health promoter and educator for patients/service users and
their support networks.
6. To report all accidents and incidents as per policy and participate in risk management
and Quality and Safety processes e.g SWARM.
7. To be accountable for ensuring that safeguards are in place for patients/service users
and escalate any safety, safeguarding or risk concerns following the appropriate
processes.
