Job summary

The Lead Radiographer for X-ray and Fluoroscopy is an advanced practitioner responsible for the operational and clinical leadership of the X-ray and fluoroscopy service. This role ensures high-quality, patient-centred imaging while maintaining compliance with IR(ME)R, IRR, and other regulatory standards. The post holder will uphold Guernseys Health & Social Care (HSC) CARE values; Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence in all aspects of service delivery. They will provide expert clinical supervision, drive service improvements, and support the professional development of Radiography staff.

Main duties of the job

Responsibility for Patient/Service User Care

1. Lead and manage the X-ray and fluoroscopy service, ensuring efficient workflow and high standards of patient care in line with CARE values.

2. Act as an expert practitioner performing and supervising complex Radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations with a compassionate and respectful approach.

3. Ensure compliance with IR(ME)R, IRR, and local radiation protection policies, demonstrating accountability for patient and staff safety.

4. Be the lead Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) for the modality area.

5. Ensure a patient-focused approach, addressing concerns with compassion and always maintaining dignity and confidentiality.

6. Monitor and optimize radiation doses in line with ALARP principles, demonstrating accountability for patient safety.

7. Manage complex cases, including paediatric, trauma, and vulnerable patients, with respect and sensitivity.

8. Oversee equipment performance, liaising with medical physics and engineers to maintain optimal functionality 24/7 service delivery.

3. Lead recruitment, daily rostering, and performance management of the Radiography team, ensuring accountability in professional development.
