Job responsibilities
To ensure that people are treated with dignity and respect at all times.
To seek consent and to ensure people are responded to in a manner which promotes their best interests.
To conduct comprehensive functional assessment and where appropriate functional analysis using the principles of Applied Behavioural Analysis.
To lead the development of Positive Behavioural Support Plans in partnership with referred person and key stakeholders.
To ensure that Positive Behavioural Support Plans focus on improvements in quality of life as both an intervention and an outcome.
To assist families and staff to develop their knowledge and skills in supporting a referred service user.
To attend, contribute to and facilitate service user review meetings. To ensure all parties are working towards shared person centred goals.
To write clear and comprehensive reports which detail the assessments and interventions conducted for a referred person.
To maintain clear and comprehensive clinical records detailing direct work with service users, their families and other relevant parties.
To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Positive Behavioural Interventions.
PARTNERSHIP WORKING
To communicate with people in a manner which promotes partnership working by respecting a persons need for information, level of understanding, background and preferred communication style.
To anticipate barriers to communication and take positive action to overcome them.
To support people in a manner that reflects their wishes, preferences and personalities.
To work in partnership with family members to ensure that the needs of a family as supporters are taken into account at all times.
To work with the PBS-Team Lead to identity operational difficulties and work creatively to resolve.
To liaise with other health and social care professionals to ensure effective and efficient collaborative working.
To work in collaboration with other services and organisations who support children and / or adults with learning disabilities.
To provide practice supervision to Support Worker colleagues within the PBS team.
TRAINING
To work with PBS-Team Lead to develop and deliver mandatory training to relevant areas of the service.
To provide bespoke packages of training relating to Positive Behavioural Support.
To provide bespoke packages of training relating to supporting individuals to aid in the implementation of positive behavioural interventions.
To provide training to family members and charitable/ voluntary organisations on Positive Behavioural Support.
To act as a mentor or assessor to staff undertaking training relating to Positive Behavioural Support.
To attend and contribute to workshops, training courses, conferences and meetings as required by the States of Guernsey, some of which may be off-island.
SERVICE DEVELOPMENT
To work with the PBS-Team Lead and other key people to identify opportunities for service development
To contribute to service development initiatives in relation to Positive Behavioural Support.
To work in collaboration with relevant parties on initiatives to develop services for people who present challenging behaviour.
To take responsibility for ones own continuing professional development.
To work with the PBS-Team Lead to evaluate own knowledge and skills to identify areas of development.
Provide coaching and training opportunities to enable others to develop their knowledge and skills.
To keep up to date with national best practice about services for people with learning disability and challenging behaviour.
MANAGEMENT
To promote good communication between all relevant parties to ensure effective partnership working.
To attend and contribute to staff meetings as appropriate.
To facilitate and keep records of service reviews against shared aims and objectives.
To manage the security of confidential information in accordance with States of Guernsey policy.
To contribute to the review of service policy and procedures relating to supporting people who present challenging behaviour.
To contribute to service audits on issues relating to supporting people who present challenging behaviour.
GENERAL
To work in accordance with the 20/20 vision.
To have knowledge of Disability and Inclusion Strategy & Children and Young Peoples plan
To work in accordance with policies, procedures and standards.
To maintain sound administrative practices in line with policy and professional standards.
To take all possible steps to safeguard the welfare and safety of service-users, colleagues and self, in accordance with Health and Safety at Work (General Ordinance, Guernsey 1987).
To follow appropriate moving and handling techniques in the work area whilst maintaining health, safety and security of others.
To identify any actual or potential risks involved in working practice.
To take positive steps to reduce risk whilst maximising service-users opportunities to gain broad life experiences.
To comply with principles contained in the Data Protection Law (Bailiwick of Guernsey 2001)
To ensure compliance with policies established for the Health and Safety of the service users and staff.
To report untoward occurrences, accidents and complaints to PBS-Team Lead.
To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time by management.
