Job summary

We are Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) and we are searching for a professional, motivated Band 5 Dental Hygienists to join our encouraging and friendly team at Commando Logistics Regiment, Chivenor.

This is a Fixed-term part time Appointment as a Band 5 Registered Civilian Dental Hygienist. Your responsibilities will be as described in this job advert. The reason why you are appointed for a fixed period is due to the position being in lieu of military position. This post will therefore end on 31st March 2026.

If you are a permanent MoD civil servant and are found successful for an internally advertised Fixed-term Appointment (FTA) you should move into the post under a Temporary Transfer (for up to a maximum of 3 years). At the end of the posting you will return to your previous MoD Business area. If this posting is at a higher grade, your promotion will be temporary, and you will return to your substantive grade at the end of the Temporary Transfer. If a Temporary Transfer cannot be agreed between all parties then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA and Change of Work Location in the UK policy for further information.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care in Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) Dental (D) to enhance force generation and operational capability and minimise dental morbidity on operations.

Job responsibilities

Duties will include but are not limited to:

Ensuring their surgery is prepared appropriately for the days patients.
Provide dental hygiene treatment in line with their approved scope of practice as per General Dental Council guidelines and in accordance with agreed patient group directive (PGD).
Working collaboratively with professional colleagues and in the best interests of patients.
Carrying out dental work under the direction of a registered dentist who has examined the patient and indicated in writing the course of treatment to be provided.
Managing the patient appointment system as required.
Accurately recording treatment on each patients electronic health records.
