The vacant post is part time working 10 hours per week as part of a job share. Negotiation about the hours to be worked to be finalised with the current incumbent taking into account business needs.

Main duties of the job

To provide occupational health care to members of the Reserve forces in line with General Medical Council (GMC) standards and relevant Defence policy to meet Commander Defence Health Care Recovery Groups (Comd DHRG) objectives for best patient care.

As agreed by Comd DHRG, support Primary Medical Care Defence Primary Health Care (DPHC) in delivery of a safe and effective primary healthcare service within the firm base at the regional level to enhance and sustain operational effectiveness.

Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:

  • Provide safe and appropriate Primary, Preventative, Occupational and Remedial Healthcare to all registered patients. Non-registered patients are to be provided with immediate medical care, on a humanitarian basis, when required.
  • The GP is to ensure that all Medical Administrative Instructions, medical policy letters and other military instructions issued from time to time by the MOD and other higher military formations, and which relate to the care of patients, are complied with and maintained in the Medical Centre.
  • Work in conjunction with the Chain of Command, to enable Commanders to meet their objectives. Attend Unit Health Committee meetings as required and provide virtual assistance to Units for Pulhheems Administration Pamphlet Management Information System (PAPMIS) purposes.
  • Provide military medical advice to the Chain of Command in a timely manner (after receiving appropriate training). The GP is to have direct access to Commanding Officers on matters relating to personnel under their Command and is to have nominated officers to whom they may refer routine administrative and disciplinary matters relating to staff and patients.
  • Provide Occupational Healthcare, in line with MOD policy, and Occupational Health advice to the Chain of Command (after appropriate training), including Recruit and assessments and other examinations deemed appropriate to enable personnel to pursue their career. There may be additional medical requirements that arise from the specialist role of the Units and for which occupational and Health & Safety at Work Act legislation may apply.
