Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be providing a comprehensive and professional physiotherapy / rehabilitation (rehab) service for entitled personnel referred to the Regional Rehabilitation Unit from physiotherapists and medical officers in the Area of Responsibility (AOR) / Region or other referral sources outside of the RRUs AOR. This will include undertaking highly skilled and specialist work in the musculoskeletal / sports and training injury area. You will also be responsible for the clinical management of patients referred to the Regional Rehabilitation Unit (RRU) and / or attending a residential rehabilitation course.

Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Performing highly skilled physiotherapeutic assessment of patients referred by Consultants, General Practitioners and Physiotherapists with diverse presentations and complex and acute / chronic physical conditions and sports injuries. To use clinical reasoning skills to provide an accurate clinical diagnosis.
  • Formulating, developing, and delivering a specialised individualised treatment programmes and exercise programmes based upon evidence-based practice, manual assessment and appropriate clinical reasoning.
  • Delivering care in line with Defence Medical guidelines Joint Service Publication (JSP 950), associated Defence Rehabilitation policy, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines and Best Practice Guidelines.
  • Liaising with the Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine / Band 7 Physiotherapists / Officer Commanding (OC) with regard to specialist physiotherapy recommendations.
  • Working with the Exercise Rehabilitation Instructor (ERI) as a clinical team in the delivery on inpatient courses and development of individual patient goal led rehabilitation.
