Main duties of the job

The PLA promotes professional best practice, advocacy and advises on education and training for staff and provides mentorship and professional supervision. The PLA is required to ensure that Business Continuity issues are in place and that positive collaboration is energetically fostered with external agencies.
  • This service involves Social Work staff providing early assessment of patient and carers needs, risk assessments, safeguarding of individuals at risk, emotional support, advocacy, welfare rights, social case management, and rapid access to resources. Importantly social workers will plan and co-ordinate effective discharge arrangements and care packages for very dependent or complex-trauma patients, and ensure, as far as possible, continuity of care by early referral to and negotiation with appropriate external agencies.
  • These activities are to support the multi-disciplinary clinical teams in Rheumatology and Rehabilitation (musculoskeletal, complex trauma and neurological) who work to accelerate the successful rehabilitation of military patients back to maximal possible health and operational fitness or reintegration into civilian life. Each social worker is fully integrated into the clinical team but also provides a service to the whole unit.
