Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:

• Managing the patient appointment system and patient dental records (manual and electronic).
• Ensuring surgeries are prepared appropriately for the days' patients in accordance with current regulations.
• Reviewing the appointment diary at the start of each planned procedure and ensuring the appropriate instrument sets are selected.
• Meeting the needs of the patients by monitoring, supporting and reassuring each individual according to their specific needs, providing appropriate advice when required.
• Ensuring adequate stocks of consumable dental materials are available within the surgery, maintaining an effective expiry list and ensuring all expired materials are removed and replaced as required.

Candidates who hold the qualifications but are not yet registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) are eligible to apply for this vacancy. However, if found successful it is a requirement that you are registered with the GDC prior to starting in the post.

Due to COVID 19, there is now a requirement for dental clinical staff to be fit tested for a FFP3 mask, which has to be worn when managing a patient who is undergoing an aerosol generating procedure (AGP). The successful candidate will be fit tested prior to commencing employment.

Requests to work flexibly and/or part time will be considered, taking into account business needs. Please note the salary will be pro-rata where part time hours are undertaken.

All employees joining Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a 6-month probation period (unless otherwise advised) effective from the employment start date. Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is Security Check (SC).

Access to the NHS pension scheme is available to the successful candidate.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.

The post does NOT offer relocation expenses (move of home, excess fares or temporary transfer). Non Standard move applicants will be eligible for the full package, subject to eligibility.

Essential

• National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) Certificate or NVQ in Oral Health Care Dental Nursing Level 3.
• Must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC).

Desirable

• To hold one of the following 5 post registration qualifications:
• Oral Health Education Certificate; Dental Radiography Certificate; Orthodontic Dental Nursing certificate; Dental Nursing Sedation certificate; Special Care Dental Nursing certificate.
