Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:

Managing the patient appointment system and patient dental records (manual and electronic), Ensuring the correct receipt, despatch, registration, and storage of Forms Medical 271.

Ensuring surgeries are prepared appropriately for the days' patients in accordance with current regulations.

Reviewing the appointment diary at the start of each planned procedure and ensuring the appropriate instrument sets are selected.

Meeting the needs of the patients by monitoring, supporting and reassuring each individual according to their specific needs, providing appropriate advice when required.

Ensuring adequate stocks of consumable dental materials are available within the surgery, maintaining an effective expiry list and ensuring all expired materials are removed and replaced as required.

Selection Process Details

This is a Fixed-term Appointment as a Civilian Dental Nurse in the DPHC. Your responsibilities will be as described in this job advert. The reason why you are appointed for a fixed period is due (Insert reason for FTA). This post will therefore begin on your appointment and will end on 03/07/2024

If you are a permanent MoD civil servant and are found successful for an advertised Fixed-term Appointment (FTA) you should move into the post under a Temporary Transfer (for up to a maximum of 3 years). At the end of the posting you will return to your previous MoD Business area. If this posting is at a higher grade, your promotion will be temporary, and you will return to your substantive grade at the end of the Temporary Transfer. If a Temporary Transfer cannot be agreed between all parties then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA and Change of Work Location in the UK policy for further information.

If you are transferring to MoD from another government department (OGD) you should join the MoD on an inward loan. At the end of the loan you will return to your home (OGD) department. Due to COVID 19, there is now a requirement for dental clinical staff to be fit tested for a FFP3 mask, which has to be worn when managing a patient who is undergoing an aerosol generating procedure (AGP). The successful candidate will be fit tested prior to commencing employment.

Requests to work flexibly and/or part time will be considered, taking into account business needs. Please note the salary will be pro-rata where part time hours are undertaken.

All employees joining Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a 6-month probation period (unless otherwise advised) effective from the employment start date. Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is Security Check (SC).

Access to the NHS pension scheme is available to the successful candidate.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.

The post does NOT offer relocation expenses (move of home, excess fares or temporary transfer). Non Standard move applicants will be eligible for the full package, subject to eligibility.

Qualifications

Essential

• National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) Certificate or NVQ in Oral Health Care Dental Nursing Level 3.
• Must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC).

Desirable

• A full United Kingdom driving licence, or proof of engagement to obtain a full United Kingdom driving licence, to enable working from other local military dental centres.
