At Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) we are an inclusive, dedicated organisation working to provide outstanding care to our entitled personnel! We are looking for a hardworking, committed Civilian Dental Nurse to join our supportive and welcoming team in the Dental Centre at Helles Barracks, Catterick Garrison.
The role of DPHC is to provide and commission a safe, effectual, and efficient healthcare service for entitled personnel contributing to the maximisation of Service personnel fit for task as agreed with the single Services. We achieve this through the provision of an occupationally aware primary healthcare service which embraces dental, rehabilitation and mental healthcare services.
This is a part time role working 16.75 hours a week:
- Monday 0745 - 1230 and 1315 - 1630
- Thursday 1315 - 1630
- Friday 0745 - 1315

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be providing clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care in Defence Primary Healthcare Dental (DPHC D) dental centres, to enhance force generation and operational capability and minimise dental morbidity on operations.

Main details of the role include but are not limited to:
- Ensuring surgeries are prepared appropriately for the days patients
in accordance with current regulations.
- Reviewing the appointment diary at the start of each planned procedure
and ensuring the appropriate instrument sets are selected.
- Preparing, mixing and handling dental materials in accordance with
manufacturers instructions; adhering to Control of Substances Hazardous to
Health (COSHH) regulations and Safety Data sheets.
- Meeting the needs of the patients by monitoring, supporting and
reassuring each individual according to their specific needs, providing
appropriate advice when required. This may include recognising and
interpreting behaviours, especially those associated with anxious patients and
dealing with them accordingly.
- Undertaking Continuing Professional Development in the core subject of medical emergencies, Infection Prevention Control (IPC), disinfection and decontamination, radiography and radiation protection; legal and ethical issues and handling complaints, as recommended by the General Dental Council.
- Managing the patient appointment system.
- Managing dental records (manual and electronic). Ensuring the correct
receipt, despatch, registration and storage of Form Medical 271 (F Med 271).
- Cleaning, disinfecting, sterilising and where required, packing instruments after
each patient, ensuring IPC protocols are always followed.
