Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care in Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) dental centres, to enhance force generation and operational capability and minimise dental morbidity on operations.

This role offers 18.5 hours per week, therefore the salary will be pro-rata for the part-time hours undertaken. The hours can be negotiated - limited hours available on Fridays (0800 - 1200 only).

Please note that this post is a Fixed Term Appointment up to 31st March 2025 and is to be held by a National Health Service (NHS) Band 5. Please read the attached FTA document for additional information.

Job responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking Continuous Professional Development in the core subjects of medical emergencies, Infection Prevention Control (IPC), disinfection and decontamination, radiography and radiation protection, legal and ethical issues, and handling complaints, as recommended by the General Dental Council.
  • Providing dental hygiene treatment in line with their approved scope of practice as per General Dental Council guidelines and in accordance with agreed patient group directive.

  • Managing dental records (manual and electronic), ensuring the correct hastening, receipt, despatch, registration, and storage of each Form Medical (F Med) 271.

  • Carrying out dental work under the direction of a registered dentist who has examined the patient and indicated in writing the course of treatment to be provided. This is in accordance with the Dental Auxiliary Regulations 1986, as amended by the Dental Auxiliaries (amended) Regulations 1991.

  • Being familiar of the content of the Dental Emergency Resuscitation Kit (DERK), how to access it, how to use the components and be capable of carrying out Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) if necessary, in support of patients and colleagues.
