We would like to invite you to broaden your clinical experience by adding mental healthcare for serving military personnel to your career portfolio. In this civilian post you will be delivering occupationally-focused mental healthcare within the Ministry of Defence.

If you are an experienced Band 7 Community Mental Health Practitioner with qualifications in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and other NICE approved phycho-therapeutic interventions to adults of working age, we would welcome your application for this post.

The post is based at RAF Brize Norton and offers 37.5 hours per week. Requests to work flexibly and/or part time will be considered, taking into account business needs.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Community Mental Health Practitioner will work autonomously within a multi-disciplinary team to provide a specialist/occupational mental health service within the Department of Community Mental Health (DCMH) area of responsibility.

They will be providing flexible and individualised care packages to meet the mental health needs of military personnel which could include the co-ordination of complex care for a defined caseload.

Job responsibilities

Duties of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Receiving and appraising complex referrals from MO/GP within the AoR and advise on the most appropriate care pathway step of care model.
  • Providing initial assessment and formulation of the needs for referred patients, planning, implementing and evaluating care with a high level of autonomy.
  • Carrying out thorough clinical risk assessments of patients and be competent in the management of high risk patients.
  • Providing recognised and clinically recommended interventions and managerial guidance for an identified, varied and often complex caseload.
  • Producing clinical reports to MO/GP and other relevant professional agencies after initial assessment, on discharge from caseload and where otherwise indicated/appropriate.
