At Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) we are an inclusive, dedicated organisation working to provide outstanding care to our entitled personnel! We are looking for a hardworking, committed Band 2 Healthcare Assistant to come join our supportive and welcoming team at Alexander Barracks, Pirbright Camp.

The role of DPHC is to provide and commission a safe, effectual, and efficient healthcare service for entitled personnel contributing to the maximisation of Service personnel fit for task as agreed with the single Services. We achieve this through the provision of an occupationally aware primary healthcare service which embraces dental, rehabilitation and mental healthcare services.

The position offers 37.5 hours per week and requests to work flexibly will be considered, taking into account business needs.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide an important service for patients (personnel and their dependents), carrying out procedures and supporting patients to live healthier lives. This role supports the strategy and mission statement for Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) to ensure optimum health and wellbeing for patients and maximum deployability.

Please note that you will work within the 24 hour bedding down facility at Pirbright. Therefore the position involves;

  • Delivering 24hour general nursing care to patients admitted to the Medical Reception Station (MRS) at Pirbright.
  • Shift work Internal rotation to night shift and weekends on a rolling rota.

You are expected to show compassion and respect to all and contribute to a caring environment. The post holder will be approachable and adaptable in order to accommodate the changing requirements of the post and be an effective team player. Able to work alone but also be an effective team player.

  • Delivering a high standard of patient care in association with nursing colleagues, as delegated by a registered practitioner.
  • Promoting health and well-being through the use of health promotion, health education, screening and therapeutic communication skills.
  • Providing safe, evidence-based, cost-effective and individualised patient care as delegated prioritising own workload and ensuring effective time management strategies are embedded in own practice.
  • Maintaining clinical equipment by carrying out mandatory checks and reporting any faults.
  • Carrying out scanning and supportive clinical administrative duties as required.
