Are you hard working, organised and looking to work as part of a team? If so then Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Pharmacy Technician Higher Level at Munster Barracks, North Yorkshire.

This post is Full-Time position offering 37.5 hours a week.

As a Pharmacy Technician Higher Level, your duties are running of the dispensary in the Healthcare Facility. Working without pharmacist’s supervision and has overall responsibility for the safe and accurate ordering, storage and dispensing of all medicines and medicinal products as prescribed by Medical Officers and other authorised prescribers and those medications that can be supplied by Nurses and by Medics.

Main duties of the job

Your responsibilities are delivering a consistently high-quality dispensary service and assists in the delivery of an effective medicines management service to entitled personnel within the multi-disciplinary.

The post holder will be required to work across two Dispensaries in the Catterick Medical Centre (CMC) and the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) Catterick as part of a team of Pharmacy Technicians. The main location will be the CMC Catterick as part of a 3–4-person team rotating through the ITC Catterick as necessary. The post is unsupervised and requires the post holder to jointly manage the day to day running of the dispensary at CMC Catterick or ITC Catterick.

Job responsibilities

As the successful candidate, your main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Communicating with patients, parents and carers regarding prescribed medicines, further supplies, and prescription payments.
  • Managing medical products supplied by nurses under Patient Group Directions (PGD) and Medics under Medic Issue Protocols (MIPs) as authorised by the Senior Medical Officer.
  • Procuring receipt, safe custody, and appropriate storage of all medicinal products including Controlled Drugs following current legislation and Defence Primary Healthcare Policy.
  • Housekeeping of the dispensary including stock checks, stock rotation and monitoring of time expiry drugs to minimise wastage as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Joint lead for temperature controlled cold chain and ambient items within the Medical Centre.
  • Joint lead for the ordering and stock management of pharmaceuticals and sundries within the medical centre.
  • Assisting Senior Medical Officer with High-Risk Medicines management monitoring and searches as required.
  • Co-coordinating and maintaining the Central Alerting System (CAS) / Medicines & Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) Alert records.
  • Submitting reports, monthly returns, and dispensary statistics, as required by the practice and DPHC. · Undertake professional audit / assessment in line with practice and Defence Primary Healthcare requirements.
  • Keeping up to date with prescribing and dispensing issues and safety issues such as product recalls and safety alerts.
  • Providing in-service training on pharmacy related issues to practice staff, doctors, nurses, and medics as needed within professional scope of competence.
  • Assisting nursing and military medical staff in the adherence of all relevant policies and guidance notes.
  • Ensuring adherence to Patient Group Directions by authorised users within Defence Primary Healthcare.
  • Ensuring adherence to all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Local Working Practices (LWPs) produced pertaining to dispensary.
