We are looking to recruit a dynamic, organised and enthusiastic Band 3 Civilian Dental Nurse who will be based at Dental Centre, Stafford, Beacon Barracks.

This position is Fixed Term until 25/07/23, at 37.5 hours a week. Request to work flexibly or Part Time will be considered, taking into account business needs.

Main duties of the job

As the chosen candidate, you will be providing clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care in Defence Primary Healthcare dental centres, enhancing force generation and operational capability and minimising dental morbidity on operations.

You will be maintaining the standard and cleanliness of the surgery and accommodation for which you are responsible, reporting any deficiencies in accordance with local protocols.

Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:

Working independently in accordance with Joint Service Publication 950, Defence Primary Healthcare Standard Operating Procedures, Freedom to Speak Up documents and all other relevant policy and guidelines.
Managing dental records (manual and electronic). Ensure the correct receipt, dispatch, registration, and storage of Forms Medical 271.
Ensuring the surgery is prepared appropriately for the day’s patients in accordance with current regulations.
Carrying out and recording daily maintenance, servicing and pre-use checks of dental equipment, reporting defects in accordance with current equipment care policies.
Meeting the needs of the patients by monitoring, supporting, and reassuring each individual according to their specific needs, providing appropriate advice when required. This may include recognising and interpreting behaviours, especially those associated with anxious patients and dealing with them accordingly.

All employees joining Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a 6-month probation period (unless otherwise advised) effective from the employment start date. Candidates who hold the qualifications but are not yet registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) are eligible to apply for this vacancy. However, if found successful it is a requirement that you are registered with the GDC prior to starting in the post.

Due to COVID 19, there is now a requirement for dental clinical staff to be fit tested for a FFP3 mask, which has to be worn when managing a patient who is undergoing an aerosol generating procedure (AGP). The successful candidate will be fit tested prior to commencing employment.

Access to the NHS pension scheme is available to the successful candidate.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.

The post does NOT offer relocation expenses (move of home, excess fares or temporary transfer). Non Standard move applicants will be eligible for the full package, subject to eligibility.
