We have an exciting opportunity for a Part Time Regional Rehabilitation Unit (RRU) Consultant to join the team here at Merville Barracks, Colchester.

The position offers 16 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure all clinical activity is documented in line with single Service guidelines and Defence Rehabilitation record keeping policy.
  • Appropriate referral of patients into the National Health Service (NHS) or the Rapid Access Imaging and Fast Track Surgery contract as per Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) policy.
  • Provision of a timely and effective rehabilitation service to all appropriately referred serving personnel.
  • Clinical decision-making on further investigation, intervention or referral of complex patients attending Multidisciplinary Injury Assessment Clinic (MIAC).

JOB PURPOSE:

We ask the successful post holder to deliver a consultant-led specialist Musculoskeletal (MSK) and Sport & Exercise Medicine (SEM) service for Defence Rehabilitation, utilising the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) where appropriate, in order to deliver a world class level of rehabilitation for service personnel.

You will be joining a dynamic MDT of clinicians supporting the Defence Rehabilitation Service, which includes Primary Care Rehabilitation Facilities (PCRFs), Regional Rehabilitation Units (RRUs) and the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Stanford Hall. These posts are to support the RRU’s intermediate care MSK service.

MAIN JOB OBJECTIVES:

  • The aim is to return, where possible, service personnel to active duty and where not, to ensure they are able to achieve the maximum level of independence and function as they continue their clinical pathway to secondary care at Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) or on discharge from the services.
  • Clinical decision-making on further investigation, intervention or referral of complex patients attending Multidisciplinary Injury Assessment Clinic (MIAC).
  • Support the Officer Commanding (OC) RRU and other clinical staff to ensure the clinical service is efficient, agile and is able to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Qualifications

Essential

  • Medical Degree recognised in the United Kingdom (UK)
  • Member or Fellow of Faculty Sport and Exercise Medicine (UK)
  • General Medical Council (GMC) registered as a doctor with a licence to practice.
  • On the Specialist Register of the GMC (SEM is desirable, but others considered)
  • Annual appraisal and revalidation.
  • Ultrasound guided steroid injections (USS) and injection therapy competence

Desirable

  • Experience of Musculoskeletal or Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) in the military Community.
