Job summary

We are Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC), and we are looking for a hardworking, Part Time Civilian Medical Practitioner to join our medical team. We are an inclusive, dedicated organisation working to provide outstanding care to our entitled personnel!

The role of DPHC is to provide and commission a safe, effectual, and efficient healthcare service for entitled personnel contributing to the maximisation of Service personnel fit for task as agreed with the single Services. We achieve this through the provision of an occupationally aware primary healthcare service which embraces dental, rehabilitation and mental healthcare services.

This is a fixed term appointment (FTA) working 14.5 hours a week until 30th September 2023.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be providing primary and occupational Healthcare in line with General Medical Council Standards to ensure that the organisational and Principal/Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) objectives are achieved to optimise patient care.

The Post Holder may have direct Line Manager Responsibilities and will participate in the mentoring of junior personnel, helping to ensure that their training needs, as defined in the Practice Development Plan, are met and that any shortfalls are identified and addressed appropriately.

Job responsibilities

The main duties will include, but are not limited to:

Provide general healthcare to all registered patients during normal practice hours.

Maximising the levels of health, well being and employability of Service personnel to ensure the needs of the single Services are met.

Undertaking mandatory medical examinations and provide appropriate occupational healthcare and advice, and all supporting administrative duties.

Appropriately supervising the management of communicable diseases, including monitoring and reporting through single Service chains.

Providing primary care emergency treatment to any patient who may require this within the Establishment.

The sift will be completed within 5 working days of the vacancy closing date. Interviews will be held on a date to be confirmed.

There will be no reimbursement for any travel expenses for the interview.

The reason why you are appointed for a fixed period is due to the incumbent currently working Part Time on another project and will be returning Full time to the position at the end of this period. This post will therefore begin on your appointment and end 13 months after that date 30th September 2023 OR will end on . You should be aware that when your Fixed-term Appointment at MOD comes to an end, arrangements will be made in line with the FTA policy.

If you are a permanent MoD civil servant and are found successful for an advertised Fixed-term Appointment (FTA) you should move into the post under a Temporary Transfer (for up to a maximum of 3 years).
