Job summary

Here at Defence Medical Services (DMS), we are an inclusive and dedicated organisation working to provide excellent care to our entitled personnel.

We are looking to recruit a hard working, forward-thinking and enthusiastic Band 8a Medication Safety Pharmacist to join our friendly team here at the Headquarters of the Defence Medical Services (HQ DMS) in Whittington, Lichfield. This is a newly created post and we are looking for someone who is innovative and up for a challenge!

This is a part-time position and offers 32 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

As the medication safety officer for the organisation, you will work with staff and patients to promote a positive culture with regards to medication safety. You will develop reports, monitor trends and utilise learning to influence policy and make improvements. You will build networks and suggest innovative solutions to promote medication safety and address any concerns. Good communication skills are required to engage at all levels of the organisation and ensure learning is embedded.

The Defence Medical Services (DMS) is made up of the Royal Navy Medical Service, Army Medical Service, the Royal Air Force Medical Service and the Headquarters DMS Group (HQ DMS GP). Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading on medication safety throughout the organisation and promoting a positive culture around reporting medication errors and incidents.

  • Providing highly complex medication safety related information, advice and education to all staff groups who handle medicines and patients.

  • Ensuring appropriate audits are conducted across the organisation in relation to safe and effective use of medicines to ensure compliance with legislation and national medication safety initiatives.

  • Leading on development and review of policies to improve medication safety.
