We are looking to recruit a dynamic, organised and enthusiastic Band 3 Civilian Dental Nurse who will be working within our Dental Department, here at Dental Centre Weeton.

The role is for 37.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

The successful postholder will provide clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care in DPHC (Dental) dental centres, to enhance force generation and operational capability and minimise dental morbidity on operations.

Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities are not limited to:

  • Undertaking Continuous Professional Development in the core subject of medical emergencies, infection prevention control, disinfection and decontamination, radiography, and radiation protection; legal and ethical issues and handling complaints, as recommended by the General Dental Council.
  • Aware of the duties of confidentiality placed upon the Civilian Dental Nurse by the General Dental Council and understand the action that must be taken to protect patients confidentiality in accordance with the General Dental Councils Principles of Patient Confidentiality document including the 7 Caldicott principles.
  • Working within the guidance provided by the General Dental Council in the Scope of Practice document.
  • Ordering consumables and equipment using the appropriate ordering system.

The Ministry of Defence is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for its staff which includes educating them on the benefits of not smoking, protecting them from the harmful effects of second-hand smoke and supporting those who want to give up smoking. Under the Smoke-Free Working Environment policy, Smoking and the use ofall tobacco products (including combustible and chewing tobacco products) will not be permitted anywhere in the Defence working environment by 31st December 2022. Due to COVID 19, there is now a requirement for dental clinical staff to be fit tested for a FFP3 mask, which has to be worn when managing a patient who is undergoing an aerosol generating procedure (AGP) the successful candidate will be fit tested prior to commencing employment.

The successful applicant will have contact with patients and service users. In-line with the NHS England approach, MOD is in the process of making full vaccination a condition of deployment for its healthcare workers employed across the UK. In order to comply with our duty of care, we require our staff to have the COVID vaccine and we will ask for proof of vaccination status during the recruitment process.
