Job summary

Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) are looking for a Part Time Band 6 Practice Nurse. The post requires someone with clinical dedication and an excellent team focus, who can adapt to a new organisational culture whilst still adhering to the highest standards of professional practice. Please note this position advertises 18.5 hours per week and the salary will be pro-rata for the hours worked.

Please note this role is conducted across 3 sites; therefore, there is an expectation to use personal transport between the sites.

Main duties of the job

As the successful Practice Nurse, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary primary healthcare team delivering general medical services and elements of occupational health to military personnel and entitled civilian personnel.

You will work unsupervised and will be responsible for the delivery of appropriate assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care needs, medical screening and advice to patients within their professional competence.

You will work within the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of professional conduct and adhere to all NMC standards and Ministry of Defence (MOD) policies and guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assessing the needs of patients against a recognised model of care, implementing and evaluating care, ensuring patients receive care according to practice guidelines and delegate care accordingly; this includes prioritising treatment and care.
  • Delivering minor injuries care, advice and treatment.
  • Leading and delivering health promotion clinics i.e. smoking cessation, weight management, alcohol misuse, sexual health.
  • Delivery nurse-led clinics and chronic disease management within Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) Protocols and Guidelines.
