Job summary

The SCW Geospatial Team are a leading Geospatial Service across the NHS, providing GIS and analytical support to NHS England, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and other health related organisations across the South of England, and nationally.

Due to the continued year on year growth of the Geospatial service within the NHS, we are looking for a Geospatial System Support Technician to support our service

The Geospatial System Support role will join our Geospatial Service team as we further increase the capability of our Geospatial platforms (ESRI ArcGIS/Open Source) to deliver operational and customer service excellence. The role works with the Geospatial Technical Manager and wider team supporting our geospatial infrastructure. They will undertake technical support work to ensure our tools and infrastructure are up to date and fit for purpose.

The role will work alongside the wider team of geospatial analysts who are responsible for the development of applications and reports using GIS and associated software tools. They will also support the wider team by leading on the technical administration of the Geospatial Service GIS platform comprising an on-premises ArcGIS Enterprise deployment, ArcGIS Online, multi-user MS SQL enterprise Geodatabase, ArcGIS Pro desktop and open-source GIS server applications.

Main duties of the job

  • Administering elements of the on-premises federated ArcGIS Enterprise, currently on version 10.8.1: Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Data Store and a multi-user MS SQL Server enterprise Geodatabase.
  • Monitor and maintain ArcGIS Server performance to ensure platform high availability, resilience, and application usability.
  • Supporting and maintaining platform backup, disaster recovery, restoration and business continuity plans and procedures.
  • Maintain GIS software through timely application of patches, service packs into various environments and performing scheduled upgrades.
  • Support Geospatial Service team with the implementation of and adherence to best practices in data modelling, publishing, and applications configurations for optimum platform performance.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain automated administration workflows such as through python scripting to increase efficiencies, support audit reporting and the overall effectiveness of the GIS platform.
  • Provide technical support, mentoring and training assistance to analyst through the Geospatial Service team
  • Identifies opportunities to improve processes, providing technical oversight and assisting with custom GIS application development.
  • Work as a liaison to SCW IT Cyber Security team and perform other GIS technical tasks as necessary.
  • Maintenance and development of our customer geospatial applications.
