Job summary

We are seeking a passionate summer intern who is enthusiastic about GIS and would like an opportunity to develop their skills and expertise.

The intern will have the opportunity to be part of a busy, dynamic geospatial team. They will undertake a range of spatial analysis, working alongside other GIS analysts on the development of maps and reports, using GIS and associated software tools.

They will also support the team through the management of our data and maintenance of our customer GIS web tools. This would suit either a recent GIS graduate or a candidate with practical expertise in GIS, but with little commercial experience to date.

The summer internship will run from June - September and will be based out of our Bristol office (can be flexible if required).

Main duties of the job

  • Support on the development of maps and reports using GIS and associated software tools. The post holder will be responsible for their own projects, supported by the team as required. The projects can be small ad-hoc requests, through to large scale projects across SCW multi-disciplinary
  • Management and maintenance of our GIS data stack. The SCW GIS service has access to GIS data from a large number of providers - from Ordnance Survey, Open data providers, through to primary care and hospital activity. These data sources require maintenance and refresh to enable the team to deliver our high levels of
  • Maintenance and development of our customer GIS Web tools - The GIS service delivers world class leading web projects to our customers. These projects require routine data refresh and analysis rebuilds.

About us

The SCW Geospatial Service provides Geospatial, analytical and decision support across the NHS and Health Sector. This is primarily to Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), NHS England and NHS Health Trusts across the South of England, as well as nationally.

As the largest NHS geospatial team, we build and deliver end to end geospatial and decision support solutions, ranging from national to local solutions, in addition to providing a Geospatial consultancy service.
