Job summary

The post holder will develop, deploy and maintain systems to curate, store and manage data submitted to NICOR by hospitals and other healthcare or research entities. This will include architectural design, development, implementation, maintenance of systems and repositories to curate and store data including establishing data pipelines, devising programmatical solutions for cleaning of data, preparation of data extracts and secure transfer of data to external stakeholders/customers. In addition, they will be required to collate requirements and develop specifications for each data repository. The post holder will be responsible for planning and implementing agreed data management policies, working with external data suppliers, and ensuring the confidentiality of the data is always maintained. The post-holder will report to the National Clinical Audit Services Manager but will work closely with and be expected to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the project manager overseeing the data access and request service, NICOR technical team, NICOR project managers, the stakeholders of key data linkage projects and clinical audit leads for each clinical audit domain.

Main duties of the job

  • Design implement and create systems for the multiple steps between submission of data by hospitals and repositories / warehouses for its use for research. This will involve writing programs to process and store data using appropriate computer programming languages (such as Python, MS SQL and Mongo DB).
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines and underlying code for the transfer of data from clinical audit data collection repositories to data research warehouse(s).
  • Develop data cleaning strategies for data quality control including duplicate record checking, error trapping and coding of derived variables.
  • Oversee all aspects of data transfer including logging, validating, curating and archiving.
  • Coordinate with in-house technical team ensuring alignment with existing technologies and data security policies.

About us

The National Institute for Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (NICOR), which is hosted by NHS Arden and GEM Clinical Commissioning Support Unit, is looking for an experienced Data Manager to join its Technical Team on a permanent basis. NICOR's role is to monitor and improve the quality of care and outcomes for cardiovascular patients through collecting, analysing and reporting on clinical information relating to cardiovascular patients from NHS and private hospitals in the UK.
