Job summary
The Senior business consultant role will have a vital role in delivering projects and organising business management across the Health Economics Unit.
The role is split between managing the unit's business management processes, where you'll oversee the operations of the unit and be integral in making sure we are efficient and effective. You'll also help deliver and coordinate outstanding projects from start to end.
The Senior business consultant will work directly with clients to support their needs, work collaboratively with all members of the HEU team on both project delivery and business management and provide line management support.

Project management and delivery
- Manage small, medium and large projects, taking operational responsibility for delivery, ensuring that other team members are aware of their responsibilities and that they complete them to time / quality / budget. Demonstrate first-rate interpersonal skills, alongside an analytical mindset.
- Work on complex projects with several different parts, bringing people together and ensuring projects move forward successfully.
- Plan projects, monitor progress, and adjust where necessary. Negotiate with clients and stakeholders to ensure project success where plans change.
- Manage risks and interdependencies to deliver your own work programme and anticipate and communicate the impact on others work areas.
- Project manage and deliver the HEU strategies, working with the relevant strategy team and leads
- Work on a range of workstreams at any one time. Be calm under pressure and able to juggle competing priorities and tight deadlines
Overseeing business management activities
- Manage the Unit's contracting, income, and expenditure processes.
- Oversee the Units support inbox, ensuring that all tasks are completed quickly and effectively.
- Oversee the financial and contracting aspects of all projects across the Unit, ensuring that key performance indicators (KPIs) are met.
- Identify where business management processes may not have been completed correctly and work with teams to rectify this.
- Act as a specialist and lead on developing business management processes and activities, continually improving our governance while minimising workloads wherever possible.
- Monitor expenditure against the Units budget.
- Maintain financial records and ensure they are accurate and up-to-date.
- Undertake business management activities where required
Stakeholder management
- Communicate with project teams and colleagues, both internally and externally, on a range of issues. This could be to ensure that teams are aware of actions and upcoming milestones, to liaise with clients on project progress or occasionally difficult news, such as project issues, or to give presentations to HEU staff or to clients.
- Horizon-scan and identify potential issues before they occur, and work to resolve issues where they do occur.
- Make judgements where there are conflicting views and make decisions where necessary, working with all parties to achieve buy-in.
- Be able to synthesise multiple sources to communicate on complex issues.
Line management
- Provide direct line management support to other team members, as well as supporting the supervision and development of other team members as part of a matrix working model.
- Proactively provide training and share knowledge on areas of expertise.
Financial management of projects
- Ensure that projects are delivered to budget, including the cost of own time spent on a project, and where potential for budget deviation is identified, flag the issue as early as possible.
- Create and monitor project and programme budgets, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and any deviation to the budget is communicated internally and to clients
