Job summary

The Strategy Unit is expanding our Evaluation Team to support existing clients and continue to build our offer. We are looking for an experiencedSenior Healthcare Analystwho will engage with clients to scope requirements, design and undertake required analyses and produce high quality outputs that convey key findings. You will have experience in applying a range of analytical methods to large and complex datasets.

The band offered will be dependent on experience.

Main duties of the job

You will be a valued member of the Strategy Unit team, supporting the development of our services, systems, strategy and reputation for excellence. You will be based within the Evaluation team who design and run a range of qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods evaluation projects. We are currently evaluating a range of small local projects to large national programmes and are looking to expand our mixed methods offer. This role will involve:

  • researching and agreeing the metrics required to evaluate the process and impact of the project
  • developing and running impact analyses to assess whether the project has caused any changes in the outcome metrics
  • presenting the results to support the project to make decisions on the future of their project.

We are committed to open-source reproducible analytical pipelines to ensure the methods are shared widely across the NHS, including sharing code and transferring skills to local teams.

There will also be opportunities for the post holder to contribute to other data science and application development projects within the Unit.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide analytical services to quantitative and mixed methods projects and programmes which will include quantitate and mixed methods evaluations.
  • Work with our customers to identify and structure the problems they need to address using your analytical experience and knowledge of the National Health Service, its organisational structures and operational processes and the context within which our customers operate.
  • Translate requirements into detailed briefs for analytical projects.
  • Locate relevant data and information sources. Including negotiating access to required datasets.
  • Using analytical skills grounded in an appropriate academic discipline, such as quantitative evaluation, epidemiology, data science, health economics, statistics or operational research, you will conduct complex analysis of diverse data. This would include the selection and application of appropriate analytical techniques and methods to large and complex datasets
  • Design and produce high quality analytical outputs applying a range of data presentation and visualisation techniques
  • Interpret and explain the results of analyses to senior managers within our clients organisations. This will include writing reports as well as presenting the results, confidently conveying key findings, critical uncertainties, business risks and opportunities.
  • Review and appraise published research, grey literature, healthcare policies and organisational activity and financial plans.
  • Keep up to date with new developments in data science and develop your ideas about the how to support the health services through innovative analyses.
