Job summary

The Directors of Public Health from all local authorities in the North East region have collaborated to set up the Andy Billett Programme for Public Health Intelligence, an innovative training scheme for Public Health Intelligence Analysts. The North of England Commissioning Support Unit (NECS) offers this opportunity to be one of the first trainees on this exciting new scheme.

NECS run the Flexible Apprenticeship Scheme on behalf of the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (NENC ICB). You'll be employed by NECS whilst working within two or more placement organisations and achieving a Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship. You will experience all the benefits of the NHS including generous holidays and pension, plus access to NHS discounts.

Working week:37.5 hours, Monday-Friday

Expected duration:24 months placement (18 months apprenticeship programme including 3 months end point assessment).

Start date:1 August 2023

Apprenticeship level:Higher, Level 4 (Higher national Certificate).

Main duties of the job

Placement organisations: these are subject to change. Your placement will be split between two or more organisations over the course of your 24-month apprenticeship programme, but these will be geographically close, please list your top three preferred locations from the below list in your application.

Through the two-year apprenticeship scheme you will get a broad exposure to Public Health Intelligence through placements in two or more different organisations, whilst completing a Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship with QA Limited as your training provider You will support the key activities of understanding the health needs of the population, addressing health inequalities, determining priorities for action, assisting wider understanding of the characteristics of the local population, and actively disseminating findings to a wide audience.

Interviews will take place w/c 22nd May.

As an Apprentice Public Health Intelligence Analyst, in the first year you will be part of a team responsible for delivering an effective Public Health Intelligence service supporting public health delivery in a local authority. In the second year, you will be part of an intelligence team within an NHS trust or different local authority. You will support the key activities of understanding the health needs of the population, addressing health inequalities, determining priorities for action, assisting wider understanding of the characteristics of the local population and actively disseminating the findings to a wide audience. Your work will help develop products to meet the statutory requirements of a Public Health team or NHS trust, such as Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment, Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and other health needs assessment, Director of Public Health Annual Reports, or population health management. During the apprenticeship period, 20% of working time (approx. 1 day per week) will be devoted to off-the-job learning.
