Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Governance Officer with excellent communication skills to work in the Health & Safety team within the wider NECS Governance service. You should be well-organised and be able to demonstrate an ability to manage conflicting priorities

The governance service provides corporate governance support internally to NECS and externally to a range of customers. The service covers a range of corporate governance activities, including Safeguard Incident and Risk Management System (SIRMS), business continuity, risk management, incident management, health & safety, fire & security and information governance.

The Governance Officer will work within the Health & Safety team to provide compliance assurance to our internal Estates portfolio of office locations and external customer locations against applicable UK Health and Safety legislation, as well as provide expert advice on a range of subjects including Display Screen Equipment (DSE), risk assessments, manual handling, fire safety awareness, incidents etc. They will also support the management of the DSE and Fire Warden online training system Workrite

It is essential that applicants can travel independently as site visits throughout the North East, Cumbria and Yorkshire will be required as part of the roll.

Main duties of the job

You will receive internal training and be enrolled on a formal external training course so that you can achieve professional certification - National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) certificate

You will have a clear set of responsibilities and direct involvement with a wide range of people across multiple organisations which will help you to develop your networking and communication skills

Main duties of the role:

Managing own diary and ensuring building compliance is kept up to date for internal and external customer sites.

Support the undertaking of annual site audits and fire risk assessments.

Support the production and assessment of various risk assessments including security, manual handling, COSHH, PEEP, new and expectant mothers etc.

Undertake and review DSE assessments for internal and external staff, including sourcing appropriate reasonable adjustments and management of ergonomic stock.

Produce reports for internal H&S Committee, and Governance reports for customers.

Supporting Access to Work and Occupational Health requests

Support the delivery of Fire Warden and Manual Handling training.

Advise from a H&S perspective on incidents within agreed timescales.
