Job summary

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Medical Coder or Medical Receptionist with knowledge of medical terminology. The dual role involves autonomous clinical coding, together with the opportunity to work within our friendly receptionist team.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the coding role:

To be responsible for the SNOMED coding of relevant information into the electronic medical record

Actioning all incoming correspondence, emails and mail in a timely manner

Identify and accurately code relevant data

Complete actions as appropriate

Add medication to record under guidance from clinical staff

Assist with patient recall system

Code relevant QOF/IIF/Enhanced Service data

Summarise both paper and electronic records

Proactively identify and rectify data quality errors in clinical records, following correct data quality protocol

Main duties of the Receptionist role:

Care navigation/signpost patients to the most appropriate service

Ensure all telephone calls are answered within the surgery standard of six rings

Manage appointment requests telephone/F2F/e.consultations/home visits

Ensure efficient processing of pathology samples from safe collection to distribution of results internally and accurately notifying patients of the results

Action requests for repeat prescriptions on the clinical computer system according to the prescribing protocol and ensure that they are ready for collection by the patient within 48 hours

Manage communication into the practice, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate action

Scanning of patient related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patients' healthcare records

About us

Whilst we work extremely hard, the culture of the practice is friendly and welcoming:

Prior to retirement, several members worked at Kingsway for over 30 years.

Informal meeting room where team members often enjoy lunch together.

The team comprises of:

5 GPs (4 of whom trained at the practice and stayed on).

Three Nurse Practitioners providing acute appointments

Three Practice Nurses and a Health Care Assistant.

The support team comprises of 10 receptionists and a separate admin team.

Information about the coding role:

The coding is currently provided by our Reception Team Leader and two receptionists who have dedicated coding time in a quieter office, away from the busyness of reception.

We would now like to increase the coding part of this role, but still provide an opportunity to be part of the reception front-of-house team.
