About us

South Durham Health Community Interest Company is a not-for-profit collaborative of 17 GP practices in County Durham, working together to deliver better care for 170,000 patients across the localities of Sedgefield and Easington.

Our aim is to improve health care services for people living in South Durham to help them live healthier, happier lives. We do this by supporting general practices in the work they do because general practice is the best way of delivering the personalised, comprehensive health care which is essential to the health and well-being of people in South Durham.

Our values put patients at the heart of everything we do and our team demonstrates behaviours that prioritises patients in every decision we take, we listen and learn respecting and supporting each other, we are evidence based, open, transparent and accountable and we strive at all time for continuous improvement.

We hold contracts to deliver several clinical services and provide comprehensive management support to the five Primary Care Networks in Easington and Sedgefield delivered by our small team of eight directly employed staff overseen by our board directors elected by our members.

Social deprivation and associated health inequality in South Durham is significant but also provides opportunities to work with partner agencies and think in new ways about how the PCNs and CIC can respond and the board is actively considering how we can pursue this.
