Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 Data Scientists (B7) to join NHS Greater Manchester ICBs Data, Intelligence and Insight Team.

As a member of the Data, Insight and Intelligence Function, you will have responsibility for developing and applying new and innovative ways of managing and analysing data. You will support a growing and multi-skilled team of intelligence experts, to build innovative applications using state-of-the-art big data technologies, and data from a wide variety of sources.

You will support healthcare and NHS professionals to make the right and most cost-effective decisions for commissioning, patient care and healthcare services. Using the very latest developments in Analytics, Data Science and Operational Research you will be providing actionable data insight to senior managers and clinicians through the power of statistical modelling and analysis.

The post-holder will be one of the organisation's subject matter experts on Data Science techniques and application and bring these applications to one or more service areas such as Performance; Population Health, Hospital Care, Mental Health and locality.

Main duties of the job

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To deliver the above, the Data Scientist will:

o Support the Data Insight and Intelligence function/Locality management team to manage the teams to deliver intelligence to end users

o Where required: manage an analytical resource consisting of analysts, data engineers, data scientists and and/or primary care data facilitators.

o Provide oversight and management of individuals within the Data Insight and Intelligence function/Locality

o Work with internal and external Data Scientists and BI colleagues to develop baseline analytics on health and social care data on a national scale.

o Apply knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cognitive Analytics and Big Data.

  • Educated to degree level in an information/statistical related field or substantial experience of application of analytical processes
  • Evidence of post-qualifying and / or continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Educated to master's degree level in a technical subject, such as Statistics, Mathematics or Computer Science, and / or equivalent experience and specialist knowledge across a number of Data Science areas

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a Local Authority, NHS, Voluntary and Community Sector or similar area for at least 2 years, preferably within an analytical role
  • Experience of working collaboratively across multiple organisations and sectors
  • Significant experience and knowledge of data and Intelligence Systems and their application in complex environments
  • Experience of interpreting and presenting datasets and/or evidence / research
  • Experience of writing and maintaining code and processes using R, JavaScript or Python
  • Experience of developing and maintaining code and processes using languages and tools such as SAS, SPSS, STATA, Hadoop, MongoDB, D3 and JavaScript
