Willow Wood Hospice are looking for a part time Speciality Doctor (6 sessions/3 days per week plus on call) and applications are invited for those wanting to gain experience in Palliative Medicine.
We have a 12 bed In Patient Unit caring for patient who require symptom management as well as those in need of End of Life care.
We also provide a comprehensive range of day services including our START clinic, dementia specialist nurses, family support and medical outpatients.
You will need to have full GMC registration, be able to work in the UK and have worked for a minimum of 3 years post registration
Main duties of the job
As a key member of the specialist, multidisciplinary team, the post holder will participate in the medical assessment and support of patient in our In Patient Unit and Day Services. You will be required to provide excellent medical care to patients living with life limiting illnesses.
As a doctor with 3 years post registration experience, you will support the Medical Director as well as the wide medical and clinical teams.

As a key member of the specialist, multidisciplinary team the post holder will participate in the medical assessment and support of inpatients and day therapy patients and provide excellent medical care to patients living with life-limiting illnesses. A doctor with 3 years post registration experience you will support the Medical Director and the wider medical and clinical teams.
Clinical Role
• To assess, plan, and implement excellent palliative care for patients on the 12 bedded inpatient unit, in the Day Services (START clinic), and, with experience, in Outpatients. The doctor will be able to work independently, though training will be given to ensure you develop a good knowledge of holistic assessment and palliative medicine prescribing.
• To liaise closely with nursing staff, particularly the nursing team leader, in the day to day care of patients and to respond to any problems which may arise: to ensure that Hospice nursing staff understand any changes in treatment proposed and to participate in their ongoing training and professional development.
• Assist nurses with updating families, speaking to relatives and explaining clinical interventions.
• To assist in the management and organisation of work in the clinical area, including involvement in the daily referral and admissions meeting and discharge planning.
• To communicate in a timely manner all relevant information and documentation following death or discharge of a Hospice patient.

- To be a fully subscribed member of a recognised medical-defence organisation.
- Post-qualification experience.
