Senior Clinical Technologist / Production Supervisor (Radiopharmacy)

Job summary

The Nuclear Medicine service at Singleton Hospital has two state-of-the art SPECT-CT systems, an on-site Radiopharmacy, bone densitometry, a mobile PET-CT service, inpatient radionuclide therapy and gamma counting facilities. The post holder will be part of a highly skilled team working within the Radiopharmacy, providing a wide range of radiolabelled products to numerous Nuclear Medicine departments within South Wales. They will be required to manage and undertake a full range of technical activities involved in the day to day running of the Radiopharmacy, including radiopharmaceutical manufacture and blood labelling services as directed by the Radiopharmacy Production Manager.

This post involves complex and specialised technical work, handling radioactive substances and dealing with the hazards associated with ionising radiation on a daily basis.

"NHS Wales Pharmacy provision will gradually transition to a centralised Transforming Access to Medicines (TrAMs) service hosted by NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP).

The current service provided by "NAME OF HEALTH BOARD" and its employees will transfer to NWSSP in line with the transition period.

Main duties of the job

Monitor process, product, and performance of all equipment in the clean room, carrying out investigations to assess the quality, effectiveness and economy of Radiopharmacy services, and plan and implement any changes to the service as a result.oContribute to the maintenance of the Pharmaceutical Quality System, specifically in terms of staff and environmental contamination monitoring, and will be overall responsible for the security and safe handling of all raw materials and products, including drugs and hazardous materials, during production.oProvide training for junior staff members, trainees and students within Radiopharmacy.oWill be involved in the reviewing, writing and implementation of standard operating procedures for both radiolabelling of 'cold' pharmaceutical products and radiolabelled blood products.

Essential

  • Level 6 qualification in pharmaceutical sciences, or equivalent with relevant experience Or Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific area e.g. Nuclear Medicine or Pharmaceutical.
  • Knowledge of GMP requirements, and of the legislation and requirements that need to be adhered to within the radiopharmacy environment.
  • Experience working in a MHRA Licenced Manufacturing Unit or comparable production environment.

Desirable

  • Leeds University, Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing of Medicines Course (APDM).
  • Preparation of radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Wider experience of pharmaceutical industry including procurement, stores and distribution.
  • Experience of handling and manufacture of radiopharmaceutical products.

  • Good organisation and time management skills.
