Practitioner Psychologist - Community
The closing date is 03 August 2025
Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic Practitioner Psychologist to join the newly established Swansea Bay Community Psychology service. The post holder would provide Community Psychology to the Bay Health Geographical Cluster initially with scope to provide input into the other clusters as required.
This job allows for career progression in post through the band 7- 8a preceptorship pathway.
The post holder will join three Community Psychologists already embedded within the Cwmtawe, Afan and Upper Valley clusters who are currently working to embed this model in the heart of the community of Swansea Bay.
Community Psychology is embedded in the West Glamorgan Regional Partnership Emotional Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy, with the impetus towards more preventative and early intervention approaches driven by the community to help increase resilience, ensure need is met at source and that partners are skilled to 'hold on to' rather than 'refer on' psychological need. There is a need to understand and work with the wider determinants of Mental Health utilising systemic thinking and skills.
Main duties of the job
To provide a community psychology service to the Bay Health Cluster geographical patch initially with scope to provide input into other clusters as required.
The provision will entail a robust assessment of the emotional and wellbeing needs of the geographical patch leading to a formulation of need whilst scanning the horizon for opportunities for shared partnership working to improve community resilience.
The model is evolving where provision is tiered with psychological consultation and support offered to organisations and partners in the area, alongside teaching, training, support, joint working and in some cases direct work with people, families and systems.
This is not a clinic based model but allows for creative innovation to help strengthen partners' ability to work with people in emotional need and distress and hold on to rather than refer on need.
The practitioner will be expected to closely evaluate their provision and feed that information through reports to those overseeing and commissioning the service.
