Junior Clinical Fellow Neonatology

The neonatal department are looking for a Junior Clinical Fellows to join the department on a fixed term basis to cover period of maternity leave.

The neonatal unit at Singleton Hospital is a busy level 3 unit. with 14 critical care and 10 special care cots although the unit frequently provides more care than this due to the flexible use of nursing staff. There are 11 neonatal consultants in post. In addition to deanery trainees, middle grade cover is provided by highly trained ANNPs, resident consultants, MTI trainees and senior clinical fellows. The unit was recently fully refurbished to very high standards. Critical care cot provision is expected to increase following service reconfiguration within the Health Board. We have recently opened a state of the art new transitional care facility and special care area adjacent to the refurbished postnatal ward. The unit is the lead level 3 (tertiary) unit for South West Wales and functions as part of the Wales Maternity and Neonatal Network.

Main duties of the job

One post will be available from as soon aspossible (July 25 ) .The post is availablefor 12 months with the potential to extend. Thepostholder will join a team of doctors andANNPs on the Tier 1 rota. You will berequired to participate in the shift system forthe first tier of medical staff which includes outof hours duties. The unit is well known for itsfriendly and supportive atmosphere and theexcellent teaching and training provided.It is highly desirable that candidates haveprevious experience of working in the NHSwith knowledge of NHS working practices andsystems or equivalent. It would be useful,though not mandatory, to have previouspaediatric or neonatal experience. You willprovide a clinical service in conjunction withyour colleagues, under the direction of theConsultant Neonatologists, which will includethe responsibility for the prevention, diagnosisand treatment of illness. You will be providedwith access to IT facilities. The use of theBadgernet database is required for daily dataentry and generation of summaries. Trainingwill be provided in these areas if required.

Access to a shared doctors' office will also beprovided.

  • Full GMC/GDC Registration
  • MB BS or recognised equivalent
  • Evidence of C.P.D.
  • Newborn life support course within the last three years (or commitment to achieve this within three months of taking up post)

Desirable

  • At least 6 months of experience working in Tier 1 in Paediatrics OR equivalent experience / competencies
