Applications are invited for a dynamic, forward-thinking Specialty Doctor to provide support to our Consultants and work within the Rheumatology Department at Swansea Bay University Health Board

The Rheumatology Service is hosted by Neath Port Talbot Singleton Delivery Group. The Unit is led by a Service Director, a Medical Director and a Nurse Director.

Rheumatology Services are provided principally at three hospitals, Morriston, Singleton Hospital and Neath Port Talbot Hospital. Outpatient activity is undertaken in all sites with a Day Unit based at Port Talbot Hospital and the DXA Bone Scanner located in Singleton Hospital.

This job is a permanent role, contracted for 6 sessions per week, working 9am - 5pm and will be based at Neath Port Talbot Hospital with cross cover required at Morriston Hospital.

The successful applicant will be joining a team of 4 consultants, 1 registrar and 1 SHO. The team has 6 clinical nurse specialists, a Directorate Manager and Service Manager.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary Clinical Team to promote the safety and well-being of the patients, under the supervision of the Consultant Neil Mo.

The service works closely with our partner organisations, both statutory and voluntary, and has established links with local General Practitioners.

There is an extensive academic and teaching programme and you will be expected to participate in this.

About us

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science.   • Full GMC Registration with a license to practice
  • Primary MBBS or equivalent
  • Certification or instructor status in ATLS
  • shall have completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.

Desirable

  • Further relevant degree/diploma/teaching qualification

Experience

  • Basic training in GIM and Rheumatology and having attained initial competencies
  • Basic training in ICM and attained initial competencies
  • Evidence of working effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working
  • Liaison with other agencies
  • Teaching and training of post/undergraduate medical staff
  • Evidence of participation in, progressing and completing audit
