Applications are invited for a Lead Clinician to join the Swansea Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) for 2 sessions. This post is fixed term for a 3 year tenure commencing as soon as possible and is based within the Swansea regional SARC hub at Langdon House, SA1. The service will provide historic and acute sexual assault medicals for children. Clients may access a range of support depending on when they present, and what their needs entail. The Welsh Regional SARC will see children up to their 14th birthday who have experienced an acute Sexual assault, are seen jointly with a Forensic Medical Examiner and a Paediatrician. The role of the Lead Clinician for Swansea SARC will be responsible for the development of pathways of care and governance mechanisms for children seen at the Swansea SARC and support clinical pathways for adults seen at the Swansea SARC only. The post holder will be an advocate for SARC and for forensic Gynaecology and will be committed to providing training in these areas for nursing, ancillary and medical staff. There are no on-call commitments associated with this post at present, Out of hours work is by separate negotiation with the Regional Lead for South Wales.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an advocate for the children seen within the SARC setting and support care consistent with the United Nations Convention on right of the child. The Lead Clinician will have responsibility to work collaboratively with the Welsh Regional Lead for SARC in South & West Wales to ensure the Swansea service works in a supportive way with Cardiff Service to optimise where possible a seamless sustainable Paediatric SARC service across South & West Wales. You would be working as part of a friendly and supportive team. Although the work has its challenges, and can be emotional, there is great satisfaction in having time to spend with the child and family and offer some support and reassurance. You will be working together as part of a multiagency team, to achieve the best outcomes for children seen.
